About the school’s needs

The Centro Escolar General Ramón Belloso school community is made up of students from the surrounding neighborhoods of Colonia Monserrat, Comunidad Dina, Colonia Luz, and Colonia Dolores, among others who have faced significant challenges over the years.

Stigmatized by social violence and the presence of gangs, these areas have struggled with overcoming negative stereotypes and vulnerabilities. Despite these adversities, the community has demonstrated remarkable resilience and openness to new initiatives and programs.

The presence of violence has not stopped the school’s commitment to education and the growth of the students, who continue to attend in search of opportunities for a better future. Every effort on the part of the educational community is met with enthusiasm and hope, as they recognize the value of education as a path to change and overcoming adversity.

Help give the children of the Centro Escolar General Ramón Belloso the future they deserve.

    Meet the students

    Krissia

“My name is Krissia, I am 14 years old and my dream is to complete my studies through college, reaching each of my academic goals.

In my free time, I enjoy listening to music and drawing. In my community, young people are judged by their appearance and how they express themselves. I would like to change this so that there is a more positive perception towards them. For the community, I would like people to be more optimistic and relate to the students instead of superficially judging them.

For my school, I would like to see changes in everyone’s vocabulary as well as better teaching methods for those children who find it more difficult to learn, and also to have tutors who can help them with new ways of learning.”

    —Krissia, 14

    Levi

“I’m Levi, I’m 14 years old and I dream of studying marketing and being an organizer and TV host. In my free time, I enjoy reading, and hiking and I am active in the Scout group.

The youth in my community are challenged by a lack of education that does not spark their curiosity to learn.

My dream is to change the negative perception that many have towards our institution and that students are taught values that will help us overcome the stigma. In addition, I long to see improvements in our school, such as better maintenance of the bathrooms and the addition of classrooms for advanced courses that encourage competition and learning in different areas”.

    Meet the principal

“My name is Cordelia, principal of Centro Escolar General Ramón Belloso.

As an educational center, we face many challenges, perhaps one of the biggest is the maintenance of our facilities with limited resources, which affects the comfort of the students and the quality of the educational environment. At the community level, this school is located in an area that has suffered a lot of social violence, stigmatized by the presence of gangs.

From 2015 to 2019, the violence intensified. In the neighborhood it became a risk to walk the streets, we had to be careful of the areas that were under the domain of one gang or another. We also have another great challenge which is the lack of support from mothers and fathers in the education and personal care of their children, due to their long working hours and complicated family situations.

This school is the educational pillar of our community. Our dream is to motivate students to achieve their academic and personal goals by offering broad and varied learning opportunities. Despite facing social violence and the pandemic, the school has adapted its teaching methods and worked closely with some parents to overcome these difficulties.

The school is a spacious, welcoming place, committed to the well-being of the students, with a professional and dedicated teaching staff.”

    —Principal Cordelia
