About the school’s needs

The community in which the school is located is made up of families and young workers who face various challenges.

Many of the young people come from environments marked by social violence and El Salvador’s state of exception, which leads to situations of school dropout due to their need to work and contribute financially to their households.

Family constraints and lack of economic resources put pressure on young people to seek employment instead of continuing their studies.

Help give the children of the Instituto Nacional Maestro Alberto Masferrer the future they deserve.

    Meet the students

    Nereida

“My name is Nereida and I am 16 years old. My dream is to graduate from high school, have a career and be able to travel.

In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, putting on makeup, eating and dancing. I recognize that we, the youth in our community, face the challenge of discrimination in some local and global environments.

My dream related to this community challenge is that we would no longer be victims of stigmatization, but would live together in harmony, helping each other and being more united. As for my vision for the school, I would like to see it more fixed up in different areas and places that are not in good shape right now.”

    —Nereida, 16

    Edwin

“I am Edwin and I am 19 years old. My dream is to become an internationally recognized software engineer.

Since I was a child, I have always been fascinated by technology and computers. I remember taking my computer apart and putting it back together again and again, just for the pleasure of understanding how it worked.

As I grew older, my passion for programming grew stronger. I dream of creating innovative applications that improve people’s lives and contribute to the advancement of society. I firmly believe that with hard work, dedication and perseverance, I will be able to achieve my goal and make my mark in the world of technology.”

    Meet a teacher

“My name is Bárbara, principal of the Instituto Nacional Maestro Alberto Masferrer.

For our community, this school is a beacon of hope that shines in the midst of adversity. It represents the opportunity for a better future for young people, where every family places its dreams of improvement and progress.

It is a place where bonds of solidarity are forged and the desire to learn and grow together is cultivated.

However, we face significant challenges. The lack of physical space is a barrier that limits our potential to serve more students and offer them a quality education.

In addition, the reality of social violence and economic pressure leads many young people to abandon their studies, forcing us to redouble our efforts to provide them with support and motivation.

In this context, the commitment of the entire educational community is fundamental to overcome these challenges and continue to be a pillar of hope for students.”
