About the school’s needs

The community where the Centro Escolar is located faces significant challenges, such as the lack of sufficient resources to provide a comprehensive education to young people.

Many young people in the community want to better themselves, but in violent environments or where there is a lack of resources it is complex.

In spite of this, the community feels that the school is its own because it is a space for growth and although there are many social and economic challenges, many efforts are made to move forward.

Help give the children of Centro Escolar Prof. Jesús Romero Flores the future they deserve.

    Meet the students

    Celene

“I am 10 years old. My dream is to be a graphic designer in illustration or an animator to make cartoons.

In my free time, I like to draw, read, be with my pets and spend time with my family. I see that many young people in my community face lack of education, crime problems and some have no money to be able to eat. In addition, other peers face discrimination.

My dream is that all children and youth can have a better education, that moms and dads have good jobs to give their children good food to eat, and that discrimination ends. I would like to see my school with a library, more games, colorful painting and more drawing activities”.

    Luis

“I am 12 years old. My dream is to be a professional soccer player and also to be president one day.

In my free time, I love being with my family, playing with them and my little brother, watching TV and, of course, playing soccer.

I see that many of my peers face family problems, sometimes spend a lot of time alone or are discriminated against for being different. My dream is that we are all respected, because although we have different abilities, we are all people. I also wish that my classmates no longer have problems at home with their parents.

My school is nice, but I would like to see it even nicer, with some repairs and a grass field so I can continue playing soccer”.

    —Luis, 12

    Meet a teacher

“My name is Maria and I am the principal of this school. The school, for our community, represents a safe space and an opportunity for learning and development.

It is a place that offers something different from the reality outside its walls, providing an opportunity for change and hope.

Our greatest hope as a school is that children can learn in a meaningful way and carry that knowledge with them always.

We also wish to see improvements in our infrastructure, to have optimal spaces for learning, and to form productive people for the future.

We have faced difficult situations in the last five years, mainly related to insecurity and crime. However, we have moved forward with the support of the community and the accompaniment during these difficult times. Our school has a lot of potential.

To those who are considering supporting us with extracurricular programs, I would say that our students have many needs and shortcomings, but also many strengths. Your support will result in a stronger community and children with better tools for life.

The school is a common and essential place for our community, a reflection of its ownership and commitment.”

    -Teacher María
