About the school’s needs

The school is part of Mexico City’s public education system and has been a pillar in the basic education of children in the community where it is located.

Like many educational institutions in Mexico, the Miguel Lerdo de Tejada Elementary School faces challenges such as the need to update its infrastructure, ongoing teacher training, and the implementation of new technologies in the classroom.

The area where it is located also presents security risks, which directly affects the students and their families.

Help give the children of the Escuela Primaria Lerdo Tejada the future they deserve.

    Meet the students

    Ángela

“I’m 10 years old. I like to go out and play with my friends and spend time at home. My dream is to travel to space and see other planets.

One of the things I would like to have in my school are new tables and benches that are painted. I also want there to be more plants and spots to grow things. In my community, there is a lot of insecurity and violence. There are no spaces to live in, the streets are not paved, and there is no lighting.

I would like my community to have more opportunities for young people, more spaces to play and to do sports, and lighting and beautiful places.”

    —Ángela, 10

    Óscar

“I am 12 years old and dream of becoming a paleontologist or astronaut. In my free time, I like to play video games.

I think young people in my community face violence every day, whether it is physical, verbal or psychological. I wish there was more security on the streets, because I feel it is very unsafe and anyone can hurt you at any time.

I would love to see my school painted and with a good image, because it is a nice place and it deserves to look good.”

    —Óscar, 12

    Meet a teacher

“My name is Pedro. Miguel Lerdo de Tejada Elementary School’s greatest challenge is to achieve educational excellence in a context where school coexistence presents significant challenges. Students face the daily challenge of maintaining high academic achievement and appropriate behavior, while the school strives to be a safe and friendly place for the community.

The institution’s greatest hope is to produce happy students who contribute positively to society. In the last five years, the school has faced difficulties such as earthquakes and a global pandemic, which led to the suspension of on-site classes. It is currently in the process of recovery.

People are invited to financially support the after-school programs, emphasizing that their contribution is an investment in the present and future of the children. In the community, the school is seen as a safe place where children are cared for and learn, although the community faces challenges of high marginalization and the need to better manage time to provide quality family life.”

    —Teacher Pedro
