About the school’s needs

In Zone 1 of Mixco, Guatemala, families face real challenges—like limited access to water, poor drainage, and streets that go dark at night. But in the middle of it all, there’s a bright spot: Escuela Oficial Rural Mixta Tierra Blanca Jornada Matutina.

This school isn’t just a place to learn—it’s a hub of hope. It’s where kids grow up with values like honesty, perseverance, and community. And it’s where big dreams begin to take shape—through books, friendship, and the belief that something better is possible.

When you visit this school, you'll meet future teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and leaders. And you'll see an entire community standing behind them.

Help give the children of Tierra Blanca Jornada Matutina the future they deserve.

    Meet the students

    José

“Hi, I’m José, and I’m 13. My biggest dream is to become one of the best engineers there is.

In my free time, I like playing Call Of Duty with my friends.

I’ve noticed that in my community, many young people face challenges like crime and bad influences. Those often keep them away from their dreams and goals.

I would love to see better patrolling in my community, with the help of officers, to reduce these problems and create a safer environment for everyone. I also dream of seeing students from my school achieving in careers that seem unattainable for many.”

    —José, 13

    Paula

“Hello, my name is Paula. I’m 12 years old. I want to become a veterinarian when I’m older.

I like listening to music, especially the group BTS.

I’ve noticed that many young people in my community have become addicted to their phones, which causes vision problems and difficulty concentrating in class or on their homework.

My dream related to my community is to be able to help stray animals and give them a better quality of life. I would also love for my school to be bigger and nicer, to provide a more welcoming environment for learning.”

    —Paula, 12

    Meet the principal

“I am Flor, director of the Escuela Oficial Rural Mixta Tierra Blanca Jornada Matutina. Our community is happy and satisfied. Over the generations, families choose our school because of its central location and facilities that favor learning. We have the support of alumni who now work here, and we are recognized as an inclusive school that caters to children with different educational needs. The school is valued by parents for the quality education we offer, and we aspire to expand to serve more students.

Our challenge is to continually improve, implement technology, and ensure quality education, while protecting our students. We seek to optimize our space with a parent office and address challenges such as insecurity, a lack of employment, and family care. We want our school to be an environment where students can move forward and lose the fear of facing life, seek better employment options, be good, honest, hard-working people, and, above all, have fear of God. And take Guatemala forward while being formed in values.

We thank those who are interested in our school. We invite you to visit us to learn about our needs and activities. We need support for our extracurricular activities, which strengthen the skills of our students.”

    —Principal Flor
