About the school’s needs
Villa Lobos 1, a community marked by a complex web of challenges, is immersed in a reality in which crime and lack of access to essential services are intertwined, impacting not only the quality of life but also limiting development opportunities. This community environment is affected not only by the lack of basic services, such as potable water, electricity and drainage, but also by the presence of parents who are deprived of their liberty due to their association with gangs, leaving children and young people deprived of parental figures and submerged in an environment that is not conducive to their growth and well-being.

“Hello, my name is Karla. I dream of becoming a doctor so I can help those who need it most.
When I’m not busy in my books, I enjoy playing with my cousins and spending extra time studying to improve my grades in school.
Many of my classmates and neighbors face issues. Violence and dropping out of school are serious problems that prevent many young people from achieving their dreams and improving their living conditions for themselves and their families. That is why I long for better educational opportunities that will awaken the interest and passion for learning in young people.
I want my friends and neighbors to see beyond grueling jobs and endless hours and dream of better careers.
I would love to see art and computer workshops established in our community, where young people can explore their creativity and develop unique skills. In addition, it would be wonderful to have a teacher who specializes in physical education, promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering a love of exercise and sports among the students.”

When I’m not thinking about how to help others in the future, I have a lot of fun playing with my friends. We love spending time together, playing spinning tops, building Jenga towers and, of course, practicing soccer!
But I know that not all young people in my community are as fortunate. Many of them face a huge challenge: the need to work from an early age to help their families financially. This extra responsibility often causes their grades to become worse. What I want most is for parents in our community to have better job opportunities so they can support their children instead of relying on them to contribute to the household.
In addition, I would love to see improvements in our school—to have better restrooms, to renovate the desks, and to repair those broken windows that have gone unattended for so long. I would also like to have a physical education teacher who is truly dedicated to teaching us the benefits of exercise and inspiring us to stay active and healthy.”
—Orlando, 12

Teamwork among the teaching staff is fundamental, thus strengthening our educational community.
We consider ourselves an educational center committed to the good use of resources, both human and material. We deeply value our infrastructure and strive to make the most of every piece of furniture and equipment, including the donations we generously receive.
For us, the school represents more than a place of learning – it is an opportunity for academic and personal improvement, where we actively work to eradicate anti-values that may affect our community. We aspire to build an environment that fosters dignified living conditions, from the improvement of our classrooms to the expansion and optimization of our sports and recreational areas, always thinking of the integral wellbeing of our young people, girls and boys.
We consider it essential to include youth in sports and cultural activities, recognizing the crucial role they play in building a more inclusive and equitable society.
In addition, we aspire to have an educational center equipped with the necessary technology that enhances the digital skills of our students and prepares them to face the challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s world.”
