About the school’s needs

In Zone Eight of the capital, one community faces a series of interrelated challenges. They struggle daily with violence and lack of employment among parents. Securing financial stability is a constant struggle for many families, whether it be paying rent or navigating entrepreneurial efforts to overcome their financial situation and survive from day to day.

Currently, the community faces a severe shortage of drinking water, while the threat of violence persists, creating constant fear among residents. Students in the area are determined to excel despite these challenges. However, the absence of parents is detrimental to the wellbeing of their children as it contributes to the risk of their becoming involved in violence or becoming its victims.

In this context, the community's progress is limited by the economic situation of many families and the continuing threat of violence, which affect the quality of life and safety of residents.

Help give the children of the Escuela Oficial para Niñas No. 26, José María Fuentes, Jornada Matutina, the future they deserve.

    Meet the students

    Micaela

“Hello, my name is Micaela. I am 12 years old, and I have big dreams for my future. My greatest hope is to become a professional singer, especially in the genres of classical music and reggaeton. I would also love to be a teacher, because I enjoy teaching and sharing knowledge. In my free time, I like to play with my siblings and sing as much as I can, as music makes me very happy.

In my community, we face challenges such as the lack of basic services, especially the shortage of drinking water, which affects everyone. I have also seen the sale of alcohol to minors and the pressure young people face to engage in harmful activities.

I would love to see improvements in my school, such as more colors and additional activities. It would be great to have a specialized physical education teacher, as well as cooking and English workshops to improve our skills.”

    —Micaela, 12

    Analy

“Hi, my name is Analy. I am 13 years old, and my biggest dream is to become a lawyer. In my free time, I enjoy helping out my sister in her shop, playing soccer with my brother and doing my homework.

In my community, we face a great shortage of basic services such as drinking water and electricity. My wish is to solve these issues so that we all have access to the internet and can do our schoolwork more easily.

I would love to see improvements in my school, such as more colors in the classrooms, the introduction of a teacher specialized in physical education, and cooking and English workshops that enrich our educational skills and experiences.”

    Meet the principal

“I am Adalgiza, the principal of Escuela Oficial para Niñas No. 26, José María Fuentes, Jornada Matutina. In our school, we strive every day to be a pillar of improvement for our students. Our goal is to give rise to women with self-esteem and solid moral values, preparing them for success not only academically but also personally.

The atmosphere in our school is beautiful and welcoming. The girls fill our classrooms with laughter, moral and spiritual values, and demonstrate solidarity and love. We have faced significant challenges, such as the loss of students and teachers due to the pandemic, as well as dropouts due to the economic hardships many of the families face.

However, we are deeply grateful for the support of Glasswing and other nearby organizations, which have provided psychological support to both our teaching staff and our students.

We sincerely thank all the people who have supported the development of our girls. Your investment in them reflects wisdom, recognizing that they are the future of our nation. These young women are hardworking, full of life and destined for success.

The resources we receive will be invested in improving our staff and in initiatives that benefit the entire school community. We hope to continue to be a center of confidence and hope.

    —Teacher Adalgiza
