About the school’s needs

Escuela Dr. Modesto Rodas Alvarado is in Honduras’ capital city of Tegucigalpa. Insecurity and violence are some of the most significant problems in the school’s community. Many of the streets are unpaved. Water arrives every eight days; the supply tank is in need of repairs. Because of poor public lighting, almost all the streets in the sector are dark, making it unsafe to travel at night.

The school is an important resource to the community, fostering the educational development of its boys and girls. It plays a leading role in starting education for more than 400 young people.

By sponsoring Escuela Dr. Modesto Rodas Alvarado, you will be providing essential resources to its students. Your sponsorship means everything from structural repairs to the construction of a new library and much more.

Help give the children of Escuela Dr. Modesto Rodas Alvarado the future they deserve.

    Meet the students

    Angel

“My name is Angel. I am 10 years old. I dream of being a military police officer to defend the country and make a better Honduras.

In my free time, I like to rest or play soccer. I also enjoy sleeping, drawing, and riding bicycles.

The young people in my community feel insecure. This is because of the distance to school. Some classmates are far away and lack the money to get there. My dream is for us all to see ourselves the same. We should not feel better than others. We should avoid fights and have good values.

Through Sponsor a School, I would like my school to be a more peaceful place, for there to be no fights, and for there to be more community, with more conversations so I can make more friends.”

    —Angel, 10

    Noheli

“My name is Noheli, I am 11 years old, and I dream of being an astronomer. I like studying the stars and knowing what’s beyond. I like to know the hidden, what the planet hides, and if we are alone in space.

I would also like to be a lawyer. I like to know about rights so I can help people.

In my free time, I like to read, draw, and ride my bicycle.

Youth in my neighborhood face discrimination. It’s because of how they speak or dress. They lack money to get to school, and they have family problems. There are also murders in the community, and the safety of children in front of the school can seem uncertain.

My dream is for everyone in the community to have equal rights, regardless of skin color or money, and to end bullying at school. Through Sponsor a School, I would like my school to be completely free of bullying, with a lot of nature. I would like for the teachers to get better every day, for the students to strive to learn much more, to see each classroom be more organized, for there to be decorations and more donations, and for the future director to also treat the students and teachers well.”

    —Noheli, 11

    Meet the principal

“My name is Julio César Alvarado, and I am the director of the Dr. Modesto Rodas Alvarado School. Our greatest challenge as a school is meeting the objectives and goals of each academic level during the development of the school year. We aspire to reach a point of collective participation for everyone in our educational community. I hope to ensure that our students can attend classes on time to carry out their academic activities.

The pandemic caused a delay in learning. We are still recovering and raising academic rates in students. We want them to be citizens who can fit into society.

The Dr. Modesto Rodas Alvarado school is an institution that serves first and second cycles. It has an adequate building and space for the development of extracurricular activities. The educational center is in a poor urban area, which is why it lacks money for developing both in-school and after-school activities. We believe that through Sponsor a School, we can solve these needs.

    —Principal Julio César Alvarado
