About the school’s needs
The communities of Colonia IVU and Colonia Luz in San Salvador have long experienced high levels of violence and stigmatization, because of an association with illicit activity.
Violence has decreased over the years, but its lingering impact has hurt the young people in these communities. It has affected their academics and physical and emotional well-being. There is a need for more extracurriculars to provide them with confidence, skills, and resilience.
Your sponsorship of Centro Escolar República de El Salvador will help unlock the potential of nearly 200 students. Your support will fund everything from new after-school programs to spaces for educational development and recreation. It will also help the school expand to increase coverage up to high school, making education more accessible for those traveling to other schools to continue their studies.
Help give the children of República de El Salvador the future they deserve.

“I’m Katya, a 15-year-old student. My dream is to earn two bachelor’s degrees, one in graphic design and one in law.
Despite challenges like a lack of family support and community stigmatization, I envision our school becoming a more organized, comfortable, and inviting space. My dream is for the entire community to see the school as a second home, much like it is for me—a place that provides help whenever we seek it.”

In our community, young people face many challenges related to education and family. However, I believe my motivation is bigger than any difficulty, and I dream of supporting my community. My dream is for my school to enhance education and have more recreational spaces for students.”

The main ones are dispelling the stigma of violence tied to our community and addressing the neglect some families show to their students. This neglect is often caused by a parent’s incarceration. Homicides, shootings, and violent incidents near the school have been a persistent issue.
Nevertheless, the school strives to change and be a haven of opportunity that fosters academic, spiritual, and moral growth in its students.
This school is very important to the community. It is a vital place for the development of girls and boys. We aspire to make big infrastructure improvements that would let us extend education up to high school. With this expansion, we aim to end the need for adolescents in nearby communities to travel to other schools for their secondary education. It will make quality education more accessible and convenient.”
—Principal Sandra
