About the school’s needs

The school sits in a community facing real challenges—limited infrastructure, few basic services, and streets that aren’t always safe, especially for kids walking to and from school. Even as economic hardship and limited access to healthcare and education have made life more difficult, this community is building something better for their families and for future generations.

Sponsoring the local school means helping to meet some of the community’s most urgent needs—like improving street safety, providing school supplies, and supporting students with meals and emotional care. It’s a way to make the school not just a place to learn, but a place where kids feel safe, supported, and set up to succeed.

Your sponsorship can open doors and offer hope to an entire generation—and help this resilient community keep moving forward.

Help give the children of the Centro Escolar Juan Ramón Jiménez the future they deserve.

    About Sponsor a School

    Meet the students

    Deborah

“My name is Deborah and I am 12 years old. Since I was little, I wanted to be a fashion designer. I’d also like to be a model, actress, military or biologist.

In my community, instead of sending them to school, it is very common for parents to put their children to work. I would like to be able to go to school without fear that something bad might happen or someone being discriminated against just because they are different.

I would like the school facilities to be more beautiful, with classrooms in good condition, with better ventilation. I wish they’d provide us with the didactic materials we need and that many cannot get because of family economic difficulties.”

    —Deborah, 12

    Álvaro

“I’m Alvaro, and I’m 14 years old. My two big dreams are to become a professional soccer player or a successful architect.

I would love for the school to become a safe place free of bullying, where students feel comfortable and in an environment where we can learn new things, despite the economic limitations that many families may have”.

    Meet a teacher

“I’m Ana Villacorta, and I am the director of the Juan Ramón Jiménez School.

As a school, we have different challenges, the main being that parents are not involved enough in the activities we take on. This decreases the motivation and commitment of the students toward their own education. Students face daily challenges related to emotional instability. There have even been cases of drug use due to the different realities they live in the family environment.

As a result of the above, we have sought professional help as an institution to follow up with some students whose mental health has worsened. However, many parents do not support their children, and this prevents us from attending other cases.

We aim to continue improving to be a safe place where students feel listened to and accompanied.

Our greatest dream is for the school to represent a space of quality education, in which each child is committed to their future and to achieving their goals.”

    —Teacher Ana
