About the school’s needs

The Centro Escolar Básico Gubernamental República de China is in the Honduras neighborhood on the outskirts of Tegucigalpa. The neighborhood, which is home to approximately 1,300 families, faces challenges including security issues and a shortage of job opportunities.

The school has faced its own challenges as well. The journey to school is marked by uncertainty and the risk of robbery. Storms have left their impact, and water currents on the way to school have disrupted regular access to classes.

Additionally, the area’s insecurity has directly affected both teachers and students. Teachers have received death threats for advocating for students affected by violence. Some children and young people are compelled to migrate, leaving school in search of better opportunities.

Despite these challenges, the school remains dedicated to providing a quality education and secure environment for the holistic development of its students. The school is a vital source of free education, fostering a peaceful and harmonious environment. Your sponsorship will enhance that positive learning environment by enabling the hiring of more teaching staff and providing critical resources such as computers and increased classroom space.

Help give the children of Centro Escolar Básico Gubernamental República de China the future they deserve.

    Meet the students

    Mirian

“I’m Mirian, a 14-year-old with big dreams. I dream of becoming the president of Honduras and one of the country’s top journalists.

During my free time, I love reading books, playing the piano and guitar, drawing, singing, dancing, and immersing myself in music.

Kids in my community face challenges related to a lack of discipline and hard work. I want my community to improve, develop, and offer better conditions so kids can grow up in safe environments.

I’d like to see my school have a more pleasant atmosphere and better infrastructure. I’d like it to be cleaner, with enough classrooms for a better learning experience.”

    —Mirian, 14

    John

    “I’m John. I’m 11. I want to be a doctor when I grow up.

I spend my free time studying and exploring on the internet.

In my community, issues like alcoholism and drug addiction affect people from a young age. I want to create campaigns that raise awareness among young people about the harmful effects of alcohol and drugs.

I would like my school to be bigger and cleaner, with more areas for playing, a space for natural science and food labs, a classroom for sewing, and a covered gym.”

    —John, 11

    Meet the principal

“I am Ana García, the director of the Centro Escolar Básico Gubernamental República de China. The demand for student enrollment in our area has been growing. This is a positive development that reflects the motivation to study of young people in the community.

However, it creates a difficult situation, as we lack classrooms to accommodate all the students. Currently, we are compelled to conduct classes outdoors or adopt rotating schedules, impacting the overall teaching and learning process.

Our commitment is unwavering; we aspire to provide quality education and improved opportunities, preventing the recruitment of students by gangs. We envision a Honduras free from violence and insecurity. In this pursuit, our role is pivotal: to contribute to the development of responsible citizens of our country.

Our school has dedicated professional staff who are ready to go above and beyond for the students’ benefit. We continuously update our methods with the latest tools to ensure the best educational experience. As an institution grounded in principles and values, we persist in our mission to shape the future of our students, exploring alternatives that enhance their learning.

Through the Sponsor a School program, we aim to sustain extracurricular activities and create better conditions for our students. Together, we can build a brighter future for them.

     —Director Ana Garcia
