About the school’s needs

The community where Centro Educativo Los Alifonsos is located is a humble place, but it has many opportunities for growth and development.

In the area, there are streets without asphalt, which causes a lot of dust or mud, depending on the season of the year, and this affects the health of the inhabitants.

In addition, there are no recreational areas, violence levels are high, and there is no health center.

Help give the children of the Centro Educativo Los Alifonsos the future they deserve.

“I am 12 years old. I dream of becoming an airline pilot or a teacher. I love to play chess in my free time.

In my community, there is a lack of development and employment opportunities. I want this to change. I want us to have nice areas like a park, spaces to play sports, and places to take courses or workshops.

I would love to see my school with many murals on the walls and classrooms with more spaces. I want it to be more ecological and a place where we can feel happy.”

    —Marlyn, 12

” I am 12 years old, and my dream is to be a baseball player, because I really like playing baseball.

Right now, there are many challenges in my community. We feel marginalized, and we don’t have places to go after school because there are no places to play. After finishing 6th grade, it is very difficult to continue studying, because there are almost no places and sometimes you can lose the school year.

I dream of having a vocational technical institute, to take technical courses that will help us with technology, art, and sports careers, so that we can continue to move forward. I also want the community to have a playground, courts, and recreational spaces.

I want my school to be bigger and with shaded areas, with more teachers and more materials.”

    —John, 12

“We have very big challenges in the community, such as the condition of the streets, health, and a lack of recreational areas such as parks, courts, and community centers. In addition, there are no health centers, and if we have an emergency, we have to move to other communities.

As a school center, we have the challenge of overcrowding in the classrooms due to lack of space. We do not want to leave young people out of school, so we enroll many, and we have classrooms with more than 40 students and few resources to facilitate the teaching and learning process.

We do this because they are young people who are vulnerable to delinquency. Therefore, we want the school to become a safe place where they can be listened to and respected.

My biggest dream is to be able to expand the school, increase the teaching and administrative staff, and have more resources for the teaching and learning process with our students.”

    —Teacher Eugenio
