About the school’s needs

The Mirador de Oriente community is situated on land that is highly susceptible to landslides. Heavy rains can cause flooding, sinkholes, and the destruction of homes.
Another challenge the community faces is the inadequate supply of potable water, which is available only two or three times a week at a considerable expense.

Water cisterns—the sole solution—are accessible only to those residents who have the means to fulfill their basic needs. Poverty, insecurity, and instances of contested land occupancy further compound the issues.

Amid these challenges, Centro de Educación Básica Gubernamental Tim Hines offers a safe space for young people from within the community and neighboring areas. Students at the school have the latitude to foster trust among themselves, creating an environment where they can learn and explore new horizons.

To make the most of that environment, they need resources such as computers, water facilities, and an updated electrical system. They also need to feel safe. In addition to educational supplies and infrastructural improvements, your sponsorship would provide the school with a perimeter wall and the support of security personnel.

Help give the children of Centro de Educación Básica Gubernamental Tim Hines the future they deserve.

    Meet the students

    Bianca

I’m Bianca, and I’m 11. I dream of having a house for my entire family.

The biggest challenge my community faces is fear. It’s because of all the dangers in the neighborhood. Plus, we don’t have places where we can have fun.

That’s why I envision my school with courts for playing sports and areas for playing.”

    Meet the director

“I am Elena Lazo, the director of the Centro de Educación Básica Gubernamental Tim Hines. We take pride in being a distinguished educational institution with highly qualified and specialized teachers in their respective fields. Additionally, we receive invaluable support from non-governmental organizations that stand by us unconditionally.

Our students confront daily challenges stemming from insecurity in the area and limited economic resources. Unfortunately, five years ago, we experienced the theft of several computers. To date, with contributions from parents, we have managed to cover the costs of surveillance with the help of a community resident.

My hope is for the facilities at our educational center to be in optimal conditions. Given the economic realities of the community, where many families have limited resources, our commitment is to provide a quality education. To achieve this, it is crucial to have classrooms in optimal conditions.”
