About the school’s needs
Centro de Educación Básica Gubernamental República de Honduras is in an old neighborhood close to the center of Tegucigalpa. It is a populated area with commerce, but there are two big problems: insecurity and the flooding caused by a ravine that runs through the neighborhood.
Amid those challenges, the school is an agent of change for residents. Here, the community’s young people are given the knowledge and tools they need to thrive. The school is a large and accessible educational center, offering English and French classes, extracurricular clubs, and tutoring.
Help give the children of República de Honduras the future they deserve.

“My name is Valeria, I am 12 years old, and I dream of being a doctor. In my free time, I like to read books and exercise.
Young people in my community lack access to educational and economic resources.
My dream is for no more robberies to take place in my neighborhood. Through Sponsor a School, I want to see my school more organized and with many more children.”

The challenges that young people in my community face are caused by a lack of education and tough economic situations.
My dream is for there to be no gangs in my community, because children who do not want to study get involved in them and lose opportunities. Through Sponsor a School, I also want to see my school well painted and without stains on the walls.”

The center’s main challenge is keeping up attendance and having students follow the guidelines set by teachers. We want to build a community and be a place of support for our students. They have difficulties that they have to overcome to succeed in the school year.
Three years ago, the educational center’s wall, situated on the right side near the field, collapsed. Currently, we suffer from leaks, which has made it difficult for us. On three occasions, the wall fell on us due to the flooding that occurred, weakening the wall. The drainage that reaches the ravine is insufficient. We moved forward with parent contributions and our own funds to try to repair the leaks.
Through Sponsor a School, I hope to grow, not just in numbers but in quality. I also hope to build a new building that meets all our needs. It will have new, modern, and proper facilities for the children. It should be noted that we also have 100% trained personnel who help better our school community.”
